Summer Programme

Come to Dublin, one of Europe’s most exciting capitals and immerse yourself in Irish Culture, Music, Film, Theatre, Politics, and Economics. Live in Griffith College’s on-campus accommodation in the heart of the city centre and even take part in the internship scheme in a Dublin business.

Currently, GCD offers two Summer School Programmes; a Six Week and a Four Week Course.  Both of these provide an in-depth analysis of contemporary Ireland from a political and cultural perspective.

The Politics Module comprises classes in Conflict Resolution, the European Union and Contemporary Irish Economics.  The programme examines the change from violence to sustainable democracy in Northern Ireland. Students get a unique opportunity to go on a field trip to the region and meet with those responsible for turning a sectarian environment into an inclusive democracy.

Students will also study Ireland and the European Union. This course provides the foundation necessary to review and analyze the decision making process of EU institutions and the member States.  Ireland owes much of its economic success to its position within the European Union.  Furthermore, the Irish Economy has gone from being an challenged rural society to a multi-ethnic urban society in less then 20 years.  Ireland has one of the world’s fastest growing economies with a robust annual GDP and one of the youngest populations in Europe.  This module explores the effects of the economic transformation and globalization on Irish society.

Students will also get to explore Contemporary Irish culture & Society. They will study three related topics in the areas of Twentieth Century Irish Literature, Irish Music and Irish culture through Film.  This module is performance driven and students will partake in field trips to the theatre, music venues and cinemas to explore these areas in detail.

Students on the Six Week Programme have an opportunity to take an Internship during the programme.
